Fairway UWA

Your Path to University Success 

Fairway UWA is a cohort experience focused on building your capacity to succeed in your higher education aspirations. With support in year 11 to help you attain key skills as you pursue your future studies and in year 12 extending your network of like-minded peers as you successfully transition to university life, these educational support programs offer unique opportunities to join our community.

Programs

Year 11 Program

We are excited to announce the launch of the new Fairway Year 11 online program!

The year 11 pilot will complement our existing Year 12 fairway program - with more information on how to enrol for our flagship Year 12 program coming soon.

We are seeking current Year 11 students who would like to take part in our pilot in Term 3 2024, with intended full roll out of the program in 2025.

In collaboration with the fantastic UWA+ Starter program, this online initiative aims to increase students’ university readiness, improve skills that support academic attainment, and foster a sense of belonging.

The pilot program will include: 

  • Sponsored registration of UWA+ Starter micro-credential, Write Ahead: Academic Writing and Study Skills
  • Online modules designed to develop students' understanding of university culture, academic reading and writing, time management, memorisation, study practice, and critical thinking
  • Online information sessions and Q+A panel with current UWA students 
  • Mail out pack of resources to support students in their studies
More information about the UWA+ Starter 'Write Ahead' micro-credential
  • The UWA+ Starter 'Write Ahead' micro-credential will develop students' understanding of university culture, academic reading and writing, time management, memorisation, study practice, and critical thinking.
  • The UWA Starter micro-credentials are specifically designed to engage with senior secondary students.
  • Successful completion of these micro-credentials contributes to Experience-based Entry pathway and earns credit towards future undergraduate study at UWA.

 

Events

Term 3: UWA+ Starter Write Ahead micro-credential

This includes 10 self-paced learning modules (25 hours total) and 3 live sessions (6 hours total). This course includes an assessment, which students will be expected to revise for.

  • 4 September 2024 Fairway - Y11 Write Ahead Session 1
  • 11 September 2024 Fairway - Y11 Write Ahead Session 2
  • 18 September 2024 Fairway - Y11 Write Ahead Session 3

Term 4: Online engagements for information and support

  • Online meet ups and presentations
  • Mailed resource pack to assist in studies and journey planning

 

Eligibility

Do you know of a student that would value from this program?

To be eligible to apply, students must meet the following criteria:

  • A current Year 11 student in 2024, commencing Year 12 in 2025
  • ATAR or non-ATAR student with aspirations for university
  • Currently hold an Australian citizenship, permanent residency in Australia, New Zealand citizenship or an Australian Humanitarian visa
  • Currently studying at a Broadway UWA School or have individual financial hardship* and are experiencing education disadvantage, such as:
    • Living in a regional or remote area
    •  An unsupportive study environment, or excess family responsibilities-
    • Experience of a disrupted migrant passage to Australia
    • A disability or medical condition that hinders their studies
    • Being in a care situation or ward of the state, or,
    • Other disadvantage not covered in above points

*Financial hardship is defined as Commonwealth income support or Commonwealth means tested

Year 12 Program 

What we offer

  • Application Guidance: Receive guidance and support in the TISC and UWA application process.
  • Campus Familiarity: Get acquainted with the beautiful UWA campus and explore the diverse range of university courses available.
  • Academic Support: We're here to help you succeed in your final year of high school, providing access to study assistance and revision classes to excel in your studies.
  • Financial assistance: Costs associated with the Fairway program, including travel to campus and accommodation for regional students, are covered by UWA. Students that successfully complete the Fairway program are eligible for a range of scholarships.

 

Fairway to me is a program that allows me to meet new people and make many new friends at my same age outside of my school. It also encourages me to try hard in Year 12 and prepare for university. I learned so many new things and had a lot of fun through the program. FairwaY yEAR 12 STUDENT, 2023

2025 Program Commitments

Within the Fairway program, there are crucial in-person events held at UWA's Crawley campus. These include a residential program, support to attend Open Day in March, and a year-end celebration. In addition, during terms 1, 2, and 3, we offer online engagements to provide information and support for your final year of school and transition to university studies.  

For parents and guardians of Fairway students there will be opportunities to engage in-person and online in 2025, where you can meet the UWA team and learn how we can help you support your students on their university journey.

  • July school holidays: Winter event at UWA

Eligibility

Places in the 2025 Fairway UWA program are limited. To be eligible to apply, students must meet the following criteria:   

  • A current Year 11 student in 2024, commencing Year 12 in 2025  
  • A predicted ATAR of 85 or above (after Broadway adjustment if eligible)  
  • Currently hold an Australian citizenship, permanent residency in Australia, New Zealand citizenship or an Australian Humanitarian visa  
  • A school nomination form to be completed by a teacher or career practitioner from your school
  • Currently studying at a Broadway UWA Schoolor have individual financial hardship* and are experiencing education disadvantage, such as:  
    • Living in a regional or remote area
    • An unsupportive study environment, or excess family responsibilities
    • Experience of a disrupted migrant passage to Australia
    • A disability or medical condition that hinders their studies
    • Being in a care situation or ward of the state, or
    • Other disadvantage not covered in above points

*Financial hardship is defined as Commonwealth income support or Commonwealth means tested

Fairway means assistance into university and further study. Being regional, information is limited about university and it feels like you are going in blind.
